ATHOL, Mass. (AP) - A north-central Massachusetts man has been charged with rape and other crimes after state police say a 20-year-old developmentally disabled woman was sexually assaulted several times.

Troopers say they served an arrest warrant on 44-year-old Richard LeFrancois of Athol this week charging him with two counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person with a disability.

LeFrancois already was detained at a Worcester County jail on unrelated charges. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.

Police say the girl attends a high school in western Massachusetts and school officials noticed she had a hickey on her neck last week. Officials say state child welfare officials and state police were notified.

Police say the assaults happened within the past two months.
