SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Officials in the Caddo Parrish School District say they want to close six schools to build three new ones, buy new buses and upgrade facilities throughout the district.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1DQLUY9 ) that before those things can happen, the local school board will have to agree to seek voters’ approval to issue bonds and reallocate an existing tax.

If voters say OK, the district could issue up to $108 million in bonds and reallocate part of a tax currently used to pay off previous bond issues. New bonds would be issued in increments.

Officials say the proposal would allow the district to operate more efficiently and create better educational opportunities.
