DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Department of Transportation is beginning a statewide push to make sure tires are ready to take on mountain travel this winter.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1zaltty ) representatives with CDOT and a Denver tire company will be at Arapahoe Basin ski resort Saturday to provide information and to check tire treads. Checks will also be conducted at the Dinosaur Lots off Interstate 70 west of Denver.

Operation TireSafe is part of a CDOT campaign to encourage motorists to have good tread on their tires before they begin traveling on I-70 this winter. Transportation officials say that on just one day last winter, 86 percent of the vehicles that caused accidents and delays had worn tires.

CDOT is partnering with tire companies throughout the state to provide deals on new tires.
