EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The Snohomish County Council has extended bans on new construction in the area of the Oso mudslide and to the east of the slide area in a flood zone for an additional six months.

The Daily Herald reports (https://goo.gl/z2gVcu) the council approved measures this week to restrict building in those areas until June 2015.

Last June, the council imposed six-month emergency bans on building in the slide area and in the flood zone along the North Fork Stillaguamish River.

The moratorium could be renewed again.

The March 22 slide killed 43 people and destroyed about 40 homes.
