DETROIT (AP) - Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard has left Friday night’s game against the New York Islanders with a lower body injury.

The Red Wings said the move was precautionary. Howard left after the first period with the score 1-1. He made eight saves in his 20 minutes of action.

Petr Mrazek replaced Howard in goal.

Howard entered the game with a 13-5-7 mark and a 2.05 goals-against average.
