ATLANTA (AP) - As shipping companies scramble to accommodate for the holiday rush, police in coastal Georgia are offering tips to ensure that packages reach their rightful owners.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police said in a statement Thursday that holiday shoppers should have packages delivered to their work addresses rather than their homes. Police say if packages must be delivered to a home address, shoppers should try arranging their schedules so they can be at home when the goods arrive, or coordinate with a neighbor who is available to receive the package.

Police say shoppers should also try arranging for in-store pickup if they can’t be at home when packages arrive. Police say the longer an unattended package sits at the front door, the easier a target it is for thieves.
