IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa City Police Department says it has completed an internal investigation into an accidental shooting at a substation that injured two officers while they were cleaning their service weapons.

Sgt. Scott Gaarde tells KCRG-TV (https://bit.ly/1wKdtxk ) Chief Sam Hargadine is reviewing the investigation report. He didn’t say if police would release details about the shooting to the public after the chief finishes his review.

Gaarde says both officers have returned to work after the Nov. 10 shooting but that one is restricted to light duty because of injuries from the shooting.

Police say the officers were performing standard cleaning and maintenance of their guns when the accident occurred. They didn’t say how the gun went off.

The officers’ identities haven’t been released.
