PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Providence man to 30 years in prison for his role in a shooting that killed a 12-year-old girl in Providence last year.

Luis Gonzalez, known as “Fat Boy,” was found not guilty of the most serious charges in the killing of Aynis (EYE’-nees) Vargas, but was convicted of felony assault and weapons charges. He was sentenced Friday in Providence Superior Court.

The girl was attending a graduation party in Providence when she and three women were shot. The three women survived. Prosecutors say Gonzalez and four other gang members targeted the party because it was in a rival gang’s neighborhood, and they sought revenge for a friend’s killing.

The shooter, Branden Castro, pleaded guilty and is serving life in prison. Three other people pleaded guilty.
