GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - An orthopedic surgeon on the Mississippi Gulf Coast has been sentenced to 75 months in prison for a tax evasion conviction.

The U.S. attorney’s office says 50-year-old Dr. Timothy Dale Jackson of Pass Christian was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden.

The judge also imposed a $12,500 fine and ordered Jackson to pay the income taxes he owes, plus interest, totaling $806,983.

On Sept. 25, a jury found Jackson guilty of four counts of felony tax evasion and one count of obstruction of due administration of tax laws.

Prosecutors said he used a phony church in Utah as tax shelter, and that beginning in 2003, he did not file tax returns or pay income taxes.
