RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Department of Transportation says it is suspending work over the holidays on a maintenance project on a pair of Interstate 40 bridges over the Yadkin River between mile markers 180 and 182.

A statement from the department says the project involves working on the deck joints for the east and westbound bridges. The work hinges on weather conditions because of the materials being used, and can only take place when air temperatures are above 45 degrees and there is no precipitation.

Originally, the project was scheduled to be completed by Friday; the eastbound bridge is done.

Work on the westbound side will resume the week of Jan. 5 and be completed the week of Jan. 12, weather permitting.
