SEAGOVILLE, Texas (AP) - Authorities in North Texas say one person is dead following a single-engine plane crash.

The Seagoville Police Department says the pilot of the plane died Thursday. A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the Beechcraft Bonanza was attempting to land at Mesquite Airport after 6 p.m. when air traffic controllers lost radio and radar contact.

Police say the plane broke into pieces after crashing into an open field near homes in the Dallas suburb of Seagoville.

It’s unclear if the plane struck any homes. No other injuries have been reported.

The pilot’s identity hasn’t been released. It’s unclear what caused the crash.

Federal and local authorities are investigating.
