SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities have dropped a murder charge against a Springfield man who’d been charged with a fatal drive-by shooting in the city two years ago.

Twenty-one-year-old Larry Green had been charged with the October 2012 shooting of 19-year-old Dwayne Kelly Jr.

The Republican (https://bit.ly/1JetwZp ) newspaper reports that in the document ending the case, prosecutors said new information has come to light that affects the prosecution’s ability to sustain the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Prosecutors say more investigation into the death is warranted.

Authorities say a gunman leaned out the window of passing car and sprayed Kelly with bullets, striking him multiple times. The shooting was described at the time as gang related.
