PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An East Greenwich man has been arrested on charges that he filed fraudulent tax returns seeking more than $3.5 million in refunds.

Federal prosecutors say 52-year-old Anthony Delfarno filed the false returns through more than a dozen corporations he created using the names and Social Security numbers of his children, a girlfriend and his former spouse.

The Providence Journal reports that defense attorney Thomas Desimone entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf during a court appearance Thursday in U.S. district court. The judge ordered Delfarno detained at home with a GPS monitoring device and an unsecured bond of $100,000.

The newspaper reports that Delfarno is the owner of SOHO Ristorante in Narragansett.

He was arrested by agents from the IRS and state police detectives on Thursday morning.
