SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Three schools south of San Francisco are on lockdown while police search for a gunman who shot an unrelated person on the street.

The shooting is not believed to be linked to the schools but residents in the western area of San Jose, California were asked Friday morning to shelter in place.

Police say a man was shot about 5 a.m. on Southwest Expressway. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police caught up to the man believed to be the gunman but he ran away from officers.
