ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan Board of Regents is planning a strategic session on the future of higher education in place of its January meeting.

The Ann Arbor News reports (https://bit.ly/1DRBBD4 ) a board meeting earlier had been scheduled for Jan. 15.

Board chair Kathy White says the strategic session also would give the board an opportunity to celebrate the anniversary of the announcement of Mark Schlissel becoming the university’s president and the 6-month anniversary of Schlissel taking office.

The next Board of Regents meeting is scheduled for Feb. 19.
