VERNON, Vt. (AP) - Authorities say an escaped inmate from New Hampshire has been arrested in Vermont four days after police say he walked away from a transitional housing unit where he was finishing his sentence.

New Hampshire State Police say 47-year-old David Ward was arrested in Vernon on Friday. Authorities say he had walked from the Calumet Transitional Housing unit in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was finishing a sentence of four to eight years for a reckless conduct.

Police say he is a suspect in three robberies since his escape.

Police tell WMUR-TV (https://bit.ly/1CddNb1 ) that Ward was carrying a stolen handgun when he was arrested. Authorities say they believed Ward was a danger to police and to the public.

It was not immediately known if Ward is being represented by a lawyer.
