ST. LOUIS (AP) - A man has suffered critical injuries in a tent fire at a homeless encampment near the Mississippi River in St. Louis.

Capt. Garon Mosby of the St. Louis Fire Department says the fire started Friday night in what’s known as “Tent City.” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/13nlufv) reports that the 50-year-old man had been asleep inside his tent when it caught fire. His friends dragged him out and started to put out the fire with water from the river.

Police says the man was burned on his hands, chest, neck and face. Police described the fire as accidental, although the bomb and arson team is investigating. The newspaper says the team is generally called out to investigate fires when the cause is unknown.
