DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Tollway officials say they expect nearly 17.6 million vehicles to use the northern Illinois interstate system during the next two weeks. That’s a slight increase compared to last year’s winter holiday season.

The Tollway announced the estimate Friday and invited holiday travelers to stop for a cup of coffee on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve at Tollway oases. McDonald’s and 7-Eleven are offering free coffee at most Tollway oases overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The Tollway plans to suspend construction lane closures during at least part of the next two weeks. But some work may continue behind barriers to keep work on schedule. The Illinois State Police also plans to crack down on speeding, driving under the influence, seatbelts and distracted driving on the Tollway.
