RIVER GROVE, Ill. (AP) - Triton College in suburban Chicago has a new president.

The board of trustees has named Mary-Rita Moore as interim president. Moore is associate vice president for strategic planning.

She replaces Patricia Granados. She’s been president of the two-year school 14 miles from downtown Chicago since 2001.

Moore takes over Jan. 1. The Triton College board approved her appointment Thursday.

Moore began her 24-year career at Triton at the “welcome desk,” assisting students with their registrations. She was named to her current positions in 2012.

Board chairman Mark Stephens says the school believes in developing its own leaders. He says Moore “thrived” in the 2009 class of the school’s “President’s Leadership Academy.”

Granados says Moore has always shown leadership skills and a commitment to student success.
