SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A judge has ordered a mother to spend two years in prison for forcing her children to undergo unnecessary medical care.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports (https://bit.ly/1ARhkYq ) that 36-year-old Janna Elizabeth Smith-Johnson pleaded no contest Friday to felony child abuse and four counts of child neglect.

Prosecutors say Smith-Johnson lied about her children’s medical conditions to doctors. Authorities say one of her sons was taking 39 medications, seeing more than 10 doctors and had a feeding tube when she was arrested in April.

Prosecutors say the boy recently ate at a pizza buffet and all four children are doing better.

Several people testified that Smith-Johnson was a good mother who did what’s best for her children and only followed the orders of doctors.
