KING GEORGE, Va. (AP) - The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says one of their patrolmen has died in a single-vehicle car crash in Virginia.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Patrolman First Class Jamel Clagett was driving home after working the midnight shift when his car left the roadway and struck a tree. The sheriff’s office says it happened on Route 218 in King George, Virginia. The sheriff’s office says he died instantly.

Clagett was a 10-year veteran of the sheriff’s office. Sheriff Troy Berry said in a statement that Clagett was known for his kindness and after he worked the overnight shift he bought breakfast Sunday at a local restaurant and dropped it off for the midnight communications staff.
