CINCINNATI (AP) - A 23-year-old man has been charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter for an accident that killed a mother and daughter who were possibly praying while taking a walk along a suburban road.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (https://cin.ci/1GJmhXf ) reports that Theodore Rumpke told police he was arguing with his girlfriend and was not looking at the road in Colerain Township on Oct. 12 when his vehicle traveled nearly 50 feet off the pavement and struck 65-year-old Patricia Lutz and 29-year-old Jessica Lutz from behind. They were dead at the scene.

Charges against Rumpke were filed Friday. Rumpke’s attorney told the judge his client has been cooperative and called the accident a tragedy.

Patricia Lutz’s husband has told the newspaper that his wife and daughter were probably praying when they were killed.
