FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - A man charged with causing a crash involving a former Farmington police officer is now suing police.

The Daily Times reported (https://bit.ly/1DZ0b5h) Saturday that Cody Olachea is suing former Officer Tyler Brown, Farmington police and the city.

In his complaint, Olachea says he was falsely accused of crashing his car into a squad car being driven by Brown on Dec. 12, 2012. Olachea says Brown hit his car after running a red light.

Olachea says he suffered head injuries and a broken arm and a passenger had multiple life-threatening fractures, a torn liver and two broken ankles.

City Attorney Jay Burnham says the city plans to vigorously defend itself.

According to court records, Olachea was charged in the crash.

He pleaded guilty to first-offense drunken driving in August.
