NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Firefighters in two Massachusetts cities are doing their part this week to make sure underprivileged children have warm coats this winter.

Firefighters will deliver the brand-new, American-made coats on fire engines to children at the New Bedford Boys and Girls Club on Monday and the Holyoke Boys and Girls Club on Tuesday. Lynn firefighters distributed coats to children in that city last Friday.

Children are able to pick their favorite color and are encouraged to write their name inside. The coat giveaway is run by the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts union, which raised $23,000 to buy coats for 700 children this year.

The program is part of the national Operation Warm organization, which has provided new coats to 1.5 million children.
