CLEVELAND (AP) - The manager of a suburban motel has been charged with four counts of misdemeanor assault after being accused of shoving and slapping four protesters who had arrived in the area from Ferguson, Missouri, for weekend protests in Cleveland.

Forty-two-year-old Angela Kocinski-Brown is scheduled to appear for an arraignment Jan. 7 in Berea Municipal Court.

Northeast Ohio Media Group (https://bit.ly/13RpdmX ) is reporting that police say Kocinski-Brown was intoxicated and directed a racial slur at one of the protesters when the incident occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday. The Middleburg Heights police chief told the website that protesters had done nothing wrong prior to being attacked.

The altercation apparently began after protesters who had booked several rooms at the motel discovered that only one room had been reserved for them.
