LOS ANGELES (AP) - A 13-year-old boy stopped a suspect from allegedly kidnapping his 4-year-old sister from their home in Lancaster, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy said Sunday.

The boy ran after the man who snatched the girl from their fenced yard shortly before noon Saturday, said Sgt. Eric Metten.

The man released the child after the boy grabbed his sister by the arm and yelled for help, prompting neighbors to come outside, Metten said.

Neighbors flagged down deputies in the area and directed them to the suspect. Authorities arrested 61-year-old Earl Williams.

He has a prior record of violent offenses, Metten said.

Neither child was harmed. Metten said he did not know whether the children were alone at the home at the time.

The suspect was seen pacing near the home where the girl lived before he entered the fenced yard, asked the girl her name and then grabbed her, officials said.

Los Angeles County sheriff deputy Mighuel Ruiz told KABC-TV that the boy is a “hero.”

“He was definitely quick on his feet. He’s very responsible for his family and obviously his 4-year-old sister,” Ruiz said.
