ST. LOUIS (AP) - Authorities are investigating the Friday afternoon shooting of an off-duty officer in a St. Louis neighborhood.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1zlNzCj ) reports that the officer was hospitalized after he was struck multiple times in his lower extremities while driving.

St. Louis police Capt. Michael Sack says it’s unclear what led up to shots being fired from another vehicle. After driving a short distance, the officer came across an individual who drove him to the hospital.

Police said they didn’t have a good description of the shooter or the vehicle.

Police haven’t released the name of the officer but say he’s 28 years old and has been with the department about four years.
