MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - Police used pepper spray to quell a fight at the Westfield Shopping Mall.

The Meriden Police Department said in a statement that the incident happened at about 6:20 p.m. Saturday when two juvenile girls told a police officer at the mall that they were afraid of being assaulted. A mother and her juvenile daughter then approached and started a disturbance.

Police said the officer used pepper spray on the aggressors when others joined in the fight and a large crowd gathered around to watch. Other officers eventually arrived to help control the situation. Police said there were no serious injuries during the incident and that firefighters treated anyone affected by the pepper spray.

Three adults and one juvenile were arrested but police have not yet released their names or charges.
