GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - - Rainfall in December 1964 set records around the Northwest, including 16.06 inches for the month in Grants Pass, which was a record until the 19.94 inches in 1996. The now abandoned town of Valsetz in Polk County had 40.25 inches of rain in December 1964.

- 17 people died in Oregon during the widespread flooding.

- After heavy snows fell in Oregon from Dec. 18-20, up to 11 inches in Portland, a warm train of storms known as the Pineapple Express began slamming the Northwest. The remnants of the Super-typhoon Opal earlier in the month contributed, according to the National Weather Service.
