SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say they arrested a 38-year-old suburban Detroit man on suspicion of setting three fires while his wife was sleeping at home.

The Oakland County sheriff’s department says that deputies and fire crews were called to the home in Springfield Township by a 35-year-old woman about 2 a.m. Monday.

She told them that she was sleeping when she noticed the comforter on her bed was burning. She also says she realized that there were fires in a closet and a laundry room. She and her 10-, 15- and 17-year-old children used fire extinguishers and water to put out the fires.

The woman told investigators that she and her husband were going through a divorce and he set the fires in retaliation for her not speaking with him.

No injuries were reported. Investigators determined that all three fires were arson. The husband was jailed, pending formal charges.
