FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) - Interstate 68 in western Maryland is closed in the Frostburg area because of icy conditions that have caused several collisions.

The Maryland State Police barracks at McHenry says reports of crashes started coming in shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday.

A State Highway Administration spokesman says crews are salting roads in Garrett and Allegany counties. He urges drivers to use caution, particularly on bridges, ramps and overpasses, and around trucks spreading the salt.

The National Weather Service has a freezing rain advisory in effect until midnight Monday for western Maryland.
