CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A Gaston County man has been charged in a fatal hit and run wreck in Charlotte.

Multiple media outlets reported that Robert Leahy is charged with hitting a moped Friday night, killing a woman and seriously injuring a man.

Police say Leahy drove about a mile from the scene before stopping his car and then ran away. Officers used helicopters and police dogs to find him.

Twenty-two-year-old Valerie Shaak was killed in the crash. Her boyfriend, 19-year-old Philip Black, was seriously injured.

Leahy is charged with felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired, among other charges. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.
