COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police in central Ohio say an unidentified driver died when he lost control of his car, was struck by an oncoming SUV and became trapped in his vehicle, which caught fire.

The crash occurred Sunday night in a residential area about 8 miles east of downtown Columbus. Police say it wasn’t immediately clear why the man lost control of the car and crossed the center line into the path of the sport utility vehicle.

Emergency responders extinguished the blaze, and the man was pronounced dead about 10 minutes after the crash.

There was no word on any injury to the 54-year-old woman who was driving the SUV.
