OXFORD, Ala. (AP) - Police say a man is being held on drug charges as a person of interest after two people were found dead at a motel in east Alabama.

Oxford police say 21-year-old Jamie Edgar Gomez of Oxford is charged with evidence tampering and marijuana possession.

Gomez was arrested after a man and a woman were found dead in a room at a Super 8 motel in Oxford late Friday, but he isn’t charged in the deaths themselves.

Authorities identify the dead as 24-year-old Sordeira Romye Maxwell of Ohatchee and 23-year-old Misty Renea Lopez of Oxford. Police haven’t released a cause of death but they say a homicide investigation continues.
