GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The mother of an 8-month-old East Tennessee girl who died in 2012 has pleaded guilty to aggravated child neglect.

Prosecutors originally charged 25-year-old Pooja Jennings with murder in the death of Abby Jennings in 2012. The girl was bruised and unresponsive when she was taken to a Greeneville hospital on Sept. 17, and she died the next day.

Prosecutor Ritchie Collins told The Greeneville Sun (https://bit.ly/1HpXmGK) that Jennings “will be a state’s witness going forward.”

A charge of murder remains against the baby’s father, 25-year-old Stephen Jennings. His trial is scheduled to begin next month.
