ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered flags at government buildings to be lowered to honor a fallen soldier from New York City.

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Ramon Morris died Dec. 12 in Parwan Province, Afghanistan after the vehicle he was in was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

The 37-year-old was assigned to a unit based at Fort Hood, Texas. He was killed alongside Spc. Wyatt Martin of Mesa Arizona.

To honor Morris, the governor has directed all state government flags to be flown at half-staff on Monday.

Cuomo says that on behalf of all New Yorkers, he extends his sympathies to Morris’ family, friends and fellow soldiers.
