MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A Sutton-based company has agreed to pay more than $8,000 in civil penalties to settle pollution violations at a mine reclamation site.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection says in a notice of violation that Breakaway Inc. discharged sediment into Deckers Creek. The discharge occurred at a former mining site near Bretz in Preston County.

Breakaway is reclaiming the site for the DEP.

Public comments on the settlement will be accepted until Jan. 9.

Breakaway owner Doug Vincent told The Dominion Post (https://bit.ly/1wdPOQW ) that he had no comment on the DEP’s notice.
