SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - A snowmobile club in southern Vermont got some help from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to improve its trail grooming capabilities.

The Hawks Mountain Ridge Runners in Windsor County got a $77,000 rural development grant to supplement the nearly $147,000 it invested in trail grooming equipment that includes hand controls.

Cindy Locke of the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers told Vermont Public Radio (https://bit.ly/13p6CNJ) that two of the club’s groomers have disabilities that make using foot controls difficult.

She says statewide, snowmobiling supports about 500 jobs and brings in $600 million each year.
