DENVER (AP) - The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says a man who crashed his SUV into Clear Creek near Golden drowned.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1x1VgeF ) investigators are still trying to determine why 65-year-old Danny Sheya, of Aurora, crashed Thursday on his way back from a business meeting in Salt Lake City. He was pulled from the submerged vehicle Saturday after being spotted by hikers.

Eagle County sheriff’s deputy Matt Westenfelder says his department received a missing persons report about Sheya late last week.

Westenfelder says family members received a call from Sheya on Thursday telling them he was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 and was about 30 miles west of Vail. He told them he expected to arrive in the Denver metro area by 11 p.m., but he never showed.
