HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Developmental Services says he’s resigning next month.

Terrence W. Macy has run the state agency for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since April 2011, when he was appointed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. He announced his resignation Monday.

Macy says he’s proud of the agency’s accomplishments over the last four years. The agency serves about 20,000 people, including 4,000 young children.

Malloy says he’ll appoint a replacement soon.
