BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - Firefighters say a Long Island auto repair shop blaze touched off explosions and even sent a container hurling into a fire truck across the street.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/13WVPLY ) says officials are investigating what caused the fire Monday evening on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood.

Flames engulfed a garage with three auto-repair bays. But the fire didn’t reach gas pumps or tanks at an attached BP gas station.

Brentwood fire Chief Javier Valentin says several containers of an unidentified material exploded. He says one container was propelled about 50 feet across a street and dented a fire engine door.

It took 150 firefighters about three hours to contain the blaze. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries.
