BUFFALO, Wyo. (AP) - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking public comment on a proposed timber sale in the Billy Creek area of the Powder River Ranger District, west of Buffalo.

The project calls for commercial timber cutting on about 1,200 acres of lodgepole pine and mixed conifer. It also calls for decommissioning two closed National Forest System roads.

Officials say they intend the project to improve forest health and aesthetics along U.S. Highway 16, the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway. It will also reduce fire danger.

Comments on the proposal are due by Jan. 22 to the Powder River Ranger District in Buffalo.
