SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A 21-year-old man has been charged with fatally stabbing a woman who was found dead inside the South Bend bar where she worked.

Court documents say 25-year-old Angela Garza had told her sister that she was waiting her friend Johnnie Nettles to arrive at Chuck’s Tavern as she was closing it late Saturday before the sisters were to make Christmas cookies.

The tavern’s owners found Garza’s body Sunday afternoon, and investigators found that money had been taken from a pried-open safe.

Police say officers found Nettles at an apartment with a bloody knife hidden under a sink. Police say Nettles told investigators he found the knife as he arrived at the bar and that Garza was already dead.

Nettles was jailed without bond. Court records don’t list a defense attorney.
