NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A Delaware woman is in serious condition after being hit by a car while she was pushing her own car, which had run out of gas.

Delaware State Police say 52-year-old Veronica Jones of Newark was pushing her car on Route 273 in Newark on Saturday night when another car hit her. The force of the impact vaulted Jones on the hood of the car that hit her, and she was thrown into a median.

Jones was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the car that hit Jones remained at the scene. He and a passenger were not hurt.

Police say the driver, 33-year-old Ariel Torres of Dover, said he didn’t see Jones before the crash.

The crash is under investigation.
