PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A Paterson police officer fired two shots and was injured trying to stop a stolen van.

Police Director Jerry Speziale tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1E6FCnf ) newspaper the driver struck one of the officers and the officer opened fire Monday.

Speziale says the driver sped around the corner and crashed before fleeing on foot.

Speziale says the officer’s injuries were “not grave.”
