GAMBRILLS, Md. (AP) - Anne Arundel County Police say they shot at a bank robbery suspect after he drove his car toward officers and hit a car that struck a sergeant.

Police say the man robbed the Navy Federal Credit Union in Odenton at gunpoint Monday evening.

Police responding to the scene found the suspect sitting in a car in Gambrills. They say he initially responded to officer commands but then hit the gas pedal and drove toward several officers. That’s when officers opened fire at the suspect, who hit a police car, which in turn struck Sgt. Andrew Wayson. Wayson was treated and released at a local hospital.

Police arrested 28-year-old Lamar Mills of Easton on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery. No attorney is listed for him in court records.
