DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Police say a man threatened to kill the police officers who surrounded his house outside Atlanta and shot at them, vehicles and houses from an upstairs bedroom window.

DeKalb County police on Monday identified the gunman as 20-year-old Austin Leake, who was killed after the hours-long standoff in the Decatur area.

Capt. Stephen Fore says Leake threatened to kill all of the officers outside his house and continued to fire at them with a high-powered rifle.

The standoff began when police received a 911 call around 9 p.m. Sunday reporting an armed, suicidal male alone inside a home in a subdivision.

Fore tells WSB-TV (https://on-ajc.com/1xddzzv) that a SWAT team rushed the house after about five hours early Monday and found Leake dead of injuries he sustained when officers returned fire.
