BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders says the state-run Vermont Veterans’ Home in Bennington is in line for a nearly $1 million federal matching grant.

Sanders, who chairs the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, announced the Department of Veterans Affairs has put the Bennington facility on a priority list for construction grants in 2015.

The grant would be put toward a kitchen-renovation project at the Bennington home.

Last week, the veterans’ home board of trustees voted to take steps to reduce the number of patient beds it is licensed for, from 171 beds to 130.
