A Tallahassee woman wearing a “Catholic Warrior” T-shirt was arrested Tuesday morning after police say she tore apart a Satanic Temple holiday display in the Florida Capitol lobby.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement Capitol Police officers say Susan Hemeryck, 54, said she “had to take down the Satanic display,” because it was “not right” before tearing the display apart, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

She was placed under arrest and is facing a charge of criminal mischief.

The controversial display features an angel falling into a pit of fire. It was denied last year for being “grossly offensive” but was allowed this year after Americans United for Separation of Church and State threatened legal action, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State said in a statement Tuesday: “This act of mindless vandalism should be condemned by all decent people and all those who support true freedom of religion. It’s important to remember that free speech in an open forum is for all groups, even those whose message some deem controversial or unpopular.”
