CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - Telecommunications firm C Spire says Corinth has achieved the needed sign-ups to begin building 1 gigabit service to one of its eligible neighborhoods.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1t9XPvJ ) Corinth on Tuesday became the fourth city to qualify for the high-speed broadband service, super HDTV and home phone service. Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville qualified earlier this year for C Spire’s service, which offers Internet speeds 100 times faster than its competitors.

Construction of the fiber optic network is expected to begin in 2015, and officials said last week they will be working vigorously to add signups in the other two eligible neighborhoods in the city.
